Adventure
#100
|
Worldwide
Game & Fish Adventures offer top quality safaris
in areas that consistently produce trophies of the highest standard
to discerning international hunters.
|
|
|
Plains game hunts are conducted
mostly in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa while dangerous
(big 5) game hunts are conducted in Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and
Mozambique. Certain specialized plains game species require longer
hunts and these are all tailor-made to suit your specific needs.
Limited access concessions are held in neighbouring countries and
are used only by Settler Safaris South Africa Hunting and
Photographic clients.
|
|
All professional hunters are licensed and experienced in guiding,
rifle, archery and handgun hunts. Ethical, fair chase hunting is a
priority with us. All huntable Southern African species are
available on ranch and hunting concessions and excellent trophy
quality is assured.
|
|
NON-HUNTING
Non-hunting companions and children are
always welcome at the lodge. Various activities can be arranged to
entertain them, should they choose not to accompany the hunter.
During the day these activities include the following:
|
|
1. Game viewing at neighbouring national
parks and reserves
2. Day trips through the area and to the ocean
3. 4 x 4 trips
4. Fishing trips (lake and ocean)
5. Golf
6. Cultural/Heritage tours
7. Curio shopping
8. Young children can be looked after by a resident minder who
will allow you quality time with your partner while on safari.

RIFLE HUNTING
Rifle hunting is conducted in the 'walk and stalk' tradition and
animals are stalked after being spotted from the hunting vehicle or
whilst glassing. Plains game hunts are usually from 5 to 14 days
long and are conducted from our home lodge in the Eastern Cape.
Certain plains game species such as Sitatunga, are hunted on special
package hunts that usually last from 14 - 21 days and these are
conducted in neighbouring countries.
Dangerous game species are conducted in South Africa and all the
surrounding southern African countries and hunts vary in length from
7 day packages to full Big 5 safaris of 21 - 28 days.
Caliber's suitable for plains game include the various 7mm and 30
caliber's with premium grade bullets. The minimum requirement for
dangerous game is the 375 h&h. Larger calibre rifles such as
416's and various 45 caliber's are recommended for elephant.
100 rounds of ammunition may be imported with each firearm except in
Namibia where the limit is 80 rounds pers firearm.
|
|
|
|
|
HANDGUN HUNTING
Handgun hunting is permitted throughout southern Africa except in
Namibia where handguns are illegal. All huntable species are
available to handgun hunters including the Big-5. Class and larger
are recommended for plain game and 375 calibre is the minimum for
dangerous games. Premium grade bullets are essential in all classes.
|
|
|
|
|
ARCHERY HUNTING
Archery hunts are conducted from well constructed pit blinds, ground
blinds and high stands, as well as by the 'walk and stalk' method.
Russ Field Safaris have two large hunting ranches that are set aside
as bow hunting only venues. The game is extremely plentiful and
trophy quality is excellent.
Shots at game from the blinds vary fro m12 to 25 yards and up to 35
yards from the high stands. Any bow in the 50 to 80 pound class will
suffice for African plains game but a bow and arrow producing a
minimum of 80 foot pounds using a z-bladed cut-on-impact broadhead
is required for thick skinned dangerous game (buffalo, rhino,
elephant).

BIRD HUNTING
Bird shoots are specialized hunts and are conducted in areas set
aside exclusively for bird hunting. All bird hunts are done over
professionally trained English and German Shorthaired Pointers while
retrievers are used for waterfowl.
Upland bird shoots are conducted mainly in the Eastern Cape's
Stormberg mountains with the primary species being the Greywing
francolin. These birds hold very tight in covey's of 6 and 15 birds.
They offer the most exciting and rewarding shooting available. Other
species you will see that are available to hunt included the big,
hard flying Helmeted guinea fowl and the small, nimble African
quail. Waterfowl species include the Spur-winged goose (the world's
largest goose species), Egyptian goose, South African shelduck,
Yellow-billed duck, Red-billed teal, Southern pochard, Cape teal and
the Cape shoveller.
To get the most out of a bird shoot one needs a minimum of 7 to 10
days and a hunt that allows you to hunt two completely different
areas and species. These hunts can be tailor-made to suit the needs
of the hunting party and can include side trips to some of the
finest wine farms in the Western Cape and some sight seeing between
venues. South Africa carries very generous bag limits. Season for
bird hunting begin in April and last until the end of August.
Limited bird hunting is also available on all big-game hunts. Any
shotgun you feel comfortable with is recommended and ammunition can
be obtained in South Africa so you can save on checked weight and
baggage. Recommended group size for bird shoots are from 3 to 8
guns.

MANAGEMENT HUNTS
These hunts are usually conducted for 1-4 days and offer the hunter
the opportunity of taking fairly large numbers of representative
animals in a short time. The animals are all part of our 'sustained
utilization of wildlife' program and all game is utilized fully.
Management hunts are for springbuck, blesbuck, mountain reedbuck,
impala and kudu and between 12 and 100 animals are usually harvested
on a 1-4 day hunt. These hunts can be added on to the beginning or
end of a hunt or can be taken separately. |

-
THE
FLY CAMP
- The fly camp (pioneer)
is mainly used in remote areas where everything has to be
transported to the campsite. Very careful planning has
to go into erecting such a camp. A good knowledge of the
surrounding area and what it can offer has to be
considered. Although all the basic essentials
exist in such a camp, it is recommended for the people who
like to stay amongst the wild animals
-
-
THE
TENT CAMP
A typical
tent camp such as shown here are better equipped than the fly
camps. These camps can host as many as twelve persons.
This camp serves generally as a base camp with more facilities
than that of the fly camp
THE
CHALETS
Chalets are
the most modern of them all. A true African style with
thatch roofs that blend in with the surroundings has become a
trademark of these camps. Facilities such as swimming pools
and some type of air conditioning are common in these camps.
90% of all modern game lodges have these facilities and are very
popular, if considered that the daily temperatures can easily sore
in to the 40 Celsius in summer and 4 Celsius in winter.
Winter mornings are very crisp but gradually heat up during the
day.
Worldwide
Game & Fish Adventures
can put together a tailor made
package that will suit your specific needs.
Travel in the luxurious
Blue Train from Johannesburg to Cape Town. Visit the
world renowned Kruger National Park or Cruise on the Zambezi while
