Adventure # 109B

Alberta, Canada

Big bodied bucks carrying large antlers are an Alberta trademark. Alberta's reputation for big whitetails is well known, but the mule deer hunting in Alberta is also second to none. Many of our clients will see more outstanding trophy mule deer bucks on one hunt with us than they have seen on all their previous hunting trips elsewhere, combined.

The deer season in our mountain zone begins in late September. For the early season hunts we will often combine mule deer with black bear, elk or moose. An antelope and mule deer combo is also available. A six day, (mountain) mule deer only hunt in October is available. To us, hunting the high country for bachelor herds of mule deer bucks is one of the finest hunting experiences to be had anywhere.

Although it is possible to have success earlier, the time we usually begin hunting whitetails is the last week of October. Whitetail bucks increase their activity as they enter the initial stages of the rut, making scrapes, rubs, etc. We then can start hunting whitetail deer and mule deer together on our popular six-day combination hunt. The season continues through the rut, to the end of November. For these hunts we will either stay at one of our wilderness tent camps or take daily trips from our home with the horses and trailer to one of several trail heads that lead to our trophy deer hotspots. For much of the area, no motorized vehicles are allowed and so access is only on horseback or foot, further limiting hunting pressure and ensuring that mature trophy deer are available year after year.

Prairie Mule Deer and Whitetail Hunts

Our prairie deer hunting season is restricted to four three-day seasons which take place every Thursday, Friday and Saturday in November. This is a three-day combination whitetail and mule deer hunt. Although some great whitetails are taken in the prairie zones, the area best known for the trophy mule deer, which are our priority on this short hunt. Hunting pressure is controlled by license quotas, enabling us to consistently produce big bucks for our clients. The terrain consists of prairie grassland, grain fields, coulees and river bottoms. You can expect some longer shots on both mule deer and whitetails in this open country. Accommodation can be either ranch house or motel, depending on the exact area we are hunting, transportation is by 4X4 or on foot.

Adventure# 109C

British Columbia, Canada Mule Deer

We are noted for our trophy class Mule Deer with better than average size; both body and antler due to great gene pool and winter range.

Our Mule Deer can be hunted throughout the entire Deer season with very good success. Our best hunts are either early, before hunting pressure in higher elevations push them into darker timber, or later where during colder weather they stay out longer and can be spotted in Alpine meadows where we utilize 'spot & stalk' techniques.
