High seats, improved pastures and a fully renovated cabin complement the excellent herds of deer naturally populating the property. Located just 1.5 hours drive from Brisbane domestic or international air terminals, the concession is in an ideal location to cater for the traveling hunter. Formerly a cattle grazing property, it has not been hunted for the past twenty years. This has allowed the naturally occurring deer herds to build up to their current healthy numbers. With the cattle removed, the pastures have regenerated, thus attracting more deer from neighboring properties. Hunts are conducted between January and September, with the premium rut time being in April. Bow hunters are also well catered for, with blinds and high seats overlooking the purpose built dams and improved pasture sites. Daily Rates & Trophy Fees: ( Daily Rates include our professional guide service, all meals, accommodation, alcoholic & non alcoholic beverages, tags & weapons. Ammunition and permits are supplied at cost price.) Victorian Concession Sambar Deer Sambar stag hunts are considered the hardest hunt of any Australian game species. A native of India, the Sambar is one of the main game animals hunted by the Bengal tiger. As such it has developed into a supremely wary deer. Usually found in the thickest of bushland and forests, Sambar is a challenging hunt for even the most experienced of deer hunters. Sambar stags are hunted in the state of Victoria between April and October each year. They are hunted in the region known as East Gippsland, which has mountainous terrain covered in thick bush. Hunting is conducted by glassing and stalking and by maintaining a watch on the scrapes and wallows frequented by Sambar stags. Bow, rifle and black powder hunters are welcome to join us on a Sambar stag hunt. Due to the difficulty involved in Sambar deer hunting, a trophy is not guaranteed in the free range environment, and we encourage our clients to select only very well antlered stags for their trophy. It is important to be aware that at least a moderate degree of fitness is required when hunting Sambar. The hunt involves a substantial amount of hiking in hilly country, often through thick bushland. An eight day package rate includes pick up and return to Melbourne by road, six days hunting, all food and beverages, comfortable tented accommodation, professional guide service, weapons and ammunition (if required), caping and salting of the trophy, and delivery to a local taxidermist. It does not include tanning or taxidermy fees. 2005 eight day package rate: US$2,750 1X1 US$2,250 2X1 Trophy Fee: $2,750 Non-hunters: $160/day
